A serious crash or emergency anywhere in Southern Nevada goes to UMC, regardless of which part of the valley it happened in.
That oversight role comes with real budget pressure: UMC, like every hospital system, has to balance its safety-net mission against its own financial sustainability, and the Commission's votes directly affect which way that balance tips.
